Mews House

Duncairn Lane

A Mews House in Bray Co. Wicklow

CARLISLE MEWS

The project involved the conversion of a pair of coach houses on a mews lane in the town of Bray Co. Wicklow and a charred timber clad extension to the rear of the existing buildings. The original coach houses were built in the mid 1800s as stables for the main houses on Duncairn Lane to the front of them. In the 1940s the coach houses were converted to workshops for industrial use. Our clients purchased the site in late 2020 and wanted to convert both buildings to a family home. The architects approach to the design of the project was to maintain as much as the character of the original historic buildings whilst creating a comfortable and spacious family home. Through extensive retrofitting and upgrading to the original building fabric in conjunction with the new extension the project achieved a BER rating of A2.
